Does each stair open like a drawer for the storage?

No, the stairs do not open for storage; however, there is an open area and a shelf on the end that can be used for storage.

Does the bunk bed deconstruct later into two separate beds or is it just a bunkbed?

This bunk bed can be separated into 2 individual beds, but the top bunk will have a gap in the footboard where the entrance to the staircase used to be.

What size mattress thickness do you recommend for the top AND bottom bunk?

We recommend a 6 & 8-inch mattress on both. Do not exceed 8 inches. The 5 inch will allow the most clearance, the the 8 inch offers more comfort.

Is there an option to add drawers under the bottom bunk bed?

Yes, you can add storage drawers below for extra storage!

What size mattress is required and type?

This bed is designed to fit standard twin and full size mattresses. This bed can fit any type of mattress, including memory foam, spring, hybrid, or latex, no box spring or bunkie board is required. We do recommend using mattresses with a maximum thickness of 8 inches to maximize guardrail height and headroom.
