what is the age recommendation for this bed? Would it be safe for a 4 year old kid?

Generally, we recommend raised beds like bunks and lofts for children 6 years and up - but you know your child best!
For younger children, we recommend the staircase entry for raised beds, as this is the safest and easiest way to access a raised bed like a Bunk or Loft.

Is this a full loft bed that could last my son until he is older?

This low full loft bed can be used as your child grows.

Is a box spring required? Or, is it feasible to include a box spring later as the child grows?

No, our beds do not require a box spring. Our slat roll is designed to take the place of the traditional box spring. We don't recommend using a box spring on our beds.

Can the ladder be on either side?

Unfortunately, the ladder can only be placed on the right side.

Can this be assembled without installing the desk and/or the bookshelf?

This bed can be assembled without installing the desk, but it cannot be installed without adding the bookshelf.
